These were Newfoundland's first adhesive postage stamps.  The 1p and 5p squares appear in several shades of brown.  The 3p triangle is green.  The other six values were first printed in scarlet-vermillion (a deep reddish), then four were printed in orange, then all six were printed in light to medium rose.
