This index lists books about Newfoundland by author, but does not contain every book by every author.
Notably, cookbooks and books of poetry are generally omitted. Only books that have, or claim to have,
Newfoundland content are listed. An author being from or residing in Newfoundland does not of itself
constitute "Newfoundland content".
The index is alphabetical by author, and the books are listed within author by publication date.
Under each author's name there are one or more lines, each representing one book.
A book line contains, left to right, the earliest known publication year, a rating on the 3-8 scale
used in the Reviews (if the book has been rated, with 3 being the lowest and 8 the highest rating),
"un" (if the book will not be reviewed because of lack of Newfoundland content), or spaces (if the book
has not yet been rated but will be rated some time in the future), the title within quotes, sometimes
additional information within square brackets, the person's contribution to the book (if not specified,
the person is the author), the names of other contributor(s) if any, and a "see review" link to the
Reviews pages if the book review has been posted to the website. Books that have a rating but not a "see
review" link will have their reviews added in future months.
A book title may be taken verbatim from the actual book, or may be a combination of title and subtitle.
When a combination, a colon (":") will separate the title and subtitle (but note that a few books have
a colon in the actual title). Where one or more words are omitted (some of the titles and subtitles are
quite long), an ellipsis ("...") is inserted (but note that a few books have an ellipsis in the actual
title). Where one or more words are replaced (such as "World War I" with "WWI"), the replacement is
enclosed within square brackets (thus "[WWI]"). Sometimes additional information is provided to the
right of the title - outside the quotes - and is also enclosed in square brackets. Capitalization is
somewhat relaxed from that which appears in the Reviews, which is matched more to the actual books -
many of which have their titles in all caps.
When a book has more than one contributor, such as co-authors, co-editors, or author and illustrator,
the book is listed for each contributor, with reference to the other contributor(s) noted.
If the book has been reviewed, along with the rating there will be a colored "see review" link, that
when clicked will display a Reviews page with the selected review at the top of the screen. To return to
this page from the Reviews page, use the "back button" on your web browser or the "[back] link that
should be displayed at the left of your screen.
